Michael Vick
On the new docu-series, Vick tells the Los Angeles Times, “I just want people to really get to know me as an individual. What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I’ve made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it’s not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up.”

Michael Vick will be hitting BET early 2010 with his reality show documenting fall from grace and hopeful return. With many supporters and few haters Vick has been able to use all such energies to fuel his fire to return to dominance in the NFL. Sources report Vick’s reality show deal with BET, check it out:
The quarterback, who took his first regular-season pro snap just two weeks ago after serving 18 months in prison, is partnering with BET for a new eight-part docu-series scheduled to air early next year. The program, tentatively titled “The Michael Vick Project,” spotlights his controversial comeback with the Philadelphia Eagles while also examining his tumultuous past — including his troubled childhood and his 2007 arrest for running a dogfighting ring.
“I just want people to really get to know me as an individual,” Vick said last week in an interview from his home in Philadelphia. “What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I’ve made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it’s not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up.”
Producers of the Vick series emphasized the program should be considered a docu-series — not a typical reality show like VH-1’s “The T.O. Show,” which revels in the excesses of its flamboyant star, wide receiver Terrell Owens. The tone of Vick’s show, say producers, will be serious and somber as it focuses on his personal struggles since his release, including the strains on his relationships with his fiancée, Kijafa Frink, and his children. It will also revisit the federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan., where Vick spent 1 1/2 years behind bars and the Virginia property where he ran and financed a dogfighting ring.
“This show can be a blueprint for so many kids,” he said. “I want to show them that things are going to happen, that they’re not going to get through life without dealing with some kind of adversity. I want to show that if they have a fall from grace, this is how they can turn it around. We want this to be a story of hope.”
James DuBose, executive producer for the project, said the series would be much more illuminating than Vick’s recent media interviews.
“We’ve heard the results, but we have not seen the process of how Michael got to where he was,” said DuBose, who has produced several reality-based series for BET.
“This is the raw storytelling of what happened, why and how.”

Its official people Michael Vick is back in the NFL. The Philadelphia Eagles is going to take a chance on the former NFL highest paid player. The deal will be for 2 yrs, $1.6 million the first year with an option for the 2010 season worth $5.2 million. This is a great day for the Vick family. Hopefully people will let homie live and get back to what he does best and thats dominating on the field.
Its going to be an interesting mix up for Philly, Donavan and Vick; but I’m pretty sure they will work him into their scheme some other ways considering Westbrook is having injury issues. MAN I LOVE THIS, ITS TIME FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!

Russell Scibetti from thebusinessof sports.com did a great write up on two of the most popular quarterbacks in the NFL, highlighting the two distinct roads they have traveled. The write up discusses how the Minnesota Vikings interest in both of the players may or may not affect the business side of things for the Vikings. One is star on his way out of the league and the other has fallen from NFL royalty to lucky to make a ‘09 roster. There are so many aspects to professional athletics on the business side of things that average fans never take into account when it come to the stars they love so much. Check out the write up below:
In the same 48 hour period, we’ve had two major NFL quarterback announcements. On one hand, you have the conditional reinstatement of Michael Vick, a fallen icon who has spent the better part of the past two years in jail on dog fighting charges. On the other hand, you have the decision to stay retired by Brett Favre, generally considered to be one of the most accomplished and admired quarterbacks in NFL history. In addition to the timing of these events, they are also indirectly connected through the Minnesota Vikings. Favre was only interested in coming back with the Vikings, but now that he’s decided to stay retired (at least for now), there is a rumor that Minnesota may be interested in Vick.
So what areas of the business are affected by these two events? Let’s go through some quick examples (and yes, I realize that
- PR: Both Favre and Vick come with some PR baggage, granted that there is a big difference in terms of degree. Because Favre has gone back and forth about his retirement so much (even expressing some immediate doubt about this most recent decision), he has lost some support from the fans and media. However, it is nothing compared to the storm of negative PR associated with Vick. While he may have “served his debt to society,” many people will never forgive Vick for his actions, and he (and any team that signs him) faces a long future of protests and unhappy fans.
- Marketing: The presence (or lack thereof) of either QB has a major impact on their team’s marketing approach. The Vikings would have definitely found good ways to incorporate Favre into their marketing message, but now they must move in another direction. Meanwhile, any team that signs Vick will probably need to market “around” his presence, taking a very delicate approach to any mention or inclusion of Vick.

Mike Vick has had the noose released from his neck and is finally a free man. Today marks the day that his home confinement has been lifted and he can really try to get back to a somewhat normal life. Its going to be an up hill battle for homie considering all the haters that refuse to retire and file for hater unemployment. All I’ve been hearing in today’s news is, “oh Michael Vick is a back up QB at best, he is a developmental project, he will be a side show”, all this type of nonsense. Its as if all these critics forgot that homie was the biggest draw in the NFL before his departure; a departure that had absolutely nothing to do with his talents. I understand that Vick made a mistake, but that mistake has nothing to do with his talents and abilities on the field. I honestly don’t think there are ten better QBs than Vick in the NFL, so in my opinion for people to act as if homie can’t hold down a starting spot is ridiculous. I can’t wait to see what all the Vick haters have to say when homie gets back on the field and dominates as he always have; thats if he’s given the chance! STOP HATING ON VICK!!!!

Michael Vick will be heading home May 20, to began his house arrest process. Many fans are speculating that the former face of the NFL will be able to jump right in his football pads and return to the top where he once sat. But, his reinstatement into the league will be on that is hard fought. It will not be because of talent Vick road to success will be hard, but because of the backlash that may come to the NFL team that does sign Vick. Public perception is a big deal for NFL teams, being that its the public who keep the lights on for the teams. It will be interesting to see what organization will roll the dice on Vick and the PR strategies they will apply to keep fan fare intact. I wish Vick luck in getting his life back on track and playing the sport he once dominated.
