The Los Angeles Lakers might have won four championships over the last decade, but its fans certainly didn’t act like it. They apparently didn’t care about the economy either. Sales from the NBA Store in New York City and on NBAStore.com reveal that the Lakers obliterated the previous 48-hour record for championship merchandise sales. In fact, Lakers fans bought so much gear that league officials said that sales doubled the record that was previously held by last year’s Boston Celtics.

Linda Choong, the NBA’s senior vice president of global retail development, attributed the rise in sales to the global nature of the fan base. Not only the star in Kobe Bryant, but the popularity of Pau Gasol contributing to significant sales from Europe. “In the first 24 hours, we took orders from over 35 countries,” Choong said. “Lakers gear was bought from places like Austria, Korea, Netherlands, Sweden and the Bahamas.” The NBA even got orders from Malta, Malaysia and a place called Virgin Gorda.

The best selling items were predictably the locker room hat and t-shirt. A new item, the authentic championship towel, was in the top five.

I don’t know if the Magic gave this game away or the Lakers just wanted it more, but whatever the case the series is now 3-1 as the Lakers took game 4 in overtime.

It was a team effort last night as the Magic took game 3 against the Lakers putting the series at 2-1 Lakers. The Magic got exceptional contributions form their bench asall-star gaurd Jameer Nelson and Michael Pietrus both performed well. This was a nail bitter all the way down to the end . Kobe and company were right there all the way down to the end but a few last minute heroics by Pietrus held the Lakers off. Game 4 isJune 11th in Orlando.

Lakers go up 2-0 in series against the Magic. The Magic had several chances to put the Lakers away in the closing seconds but couldn’t pull it off as the Lakers pushed them to overtime. In the overtime it was all Lakers as Kobe took control and made several great plays (hitting a fade away jumper from the right corner over Turkoglu and then finding Gasolcutting down the middle for an and one) to give the them the 101-96 victory.

Kobe drops 40pts to push the Laker pass the Magic in game one of the NBA Finals. The Magic came out in the first quarter and seemed as if they would compete for 48mins. But the proved to be wrong as the Lakers dominated them over the next three to ultimately win by 25pts in a 100-75 victory.
