Kesha

Newcomer Ke$ha is taking off.

She has her first solo chart single “TiK ToK” to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 (2-1), set to be released on billboard.biz on Thursday, (Dec. 24). She’s the first female vocalist to rise to No. 1 with her debut single since Lady Gaga stormed the list with “Just Dance” in January 2009.

“TiK ToK” is actually the second Hot 100 No. 1 to feature vocals by the 22-year old. She had a non-credited appearance on Flo Rida’s six-week chart-topper “Right Round” earlier this year. “TiK ToK’ is the first release from Ke$ha’s debut set, “Animal,” which hits retail on January 5.

“TiK Tok” also moves 2-1 on Digital Songs with 221,000 downloads (up 40,000) and is the Digital Gainer on the Hot 100. The song’s weekly total is the highest sum since Britney Spears’ “3” posted 254,000 on the chart dated Oct. 24. “3” remains in the Hot 100 top 10, falling 9-10 this week. Ke$ha’s move to the top bumps “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z & Alicia Keys from its perch (1-2) after a five-week run. Check out her video below:

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson continues to dominate the charts. His no. 1 run is the longest for a male artist since 50 Cent’s “The Massacre” also did six weeks in late 2007 and early 2008 according to Billboard. It’s also his longest reign with the top album in the country since 1987’s “Bad” album spent six weeks as the U.S.’ best-seller. His 1991 “Dangerous” set earned four weeks at No. 1, while 1995’s “HIStory” was No. 1 for two weeks and 2001’s “Invincible” topped the tally for one week.

Maxwell makes big news on the Billboard 200 albums chart, entering at No. 1 with “BLACKsummers’night” and a career-high sales week of 316,000. It’s his second chart-topper. The singer’s last set, 2001’s “Now,” also opened at No. 1 with a then-best 296,000 copies sold.

The “Hannah Montana” parade on the Billboard 200 continues as the TV soundtrack “Hannah Montana 3″ bows at No. 2 with 137,000. Earlier this year, the “Hannah Montana: the Movie” film soundtrack started at No. 2 with 139,000. The first two “Hannah” TV soundtracks both reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 back in 2006 and 2007, respectively.

Rock band All Time Low has its all-time high week as “Nothing Personal” enters at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 with 63,000. It’s the group’s best sales week and highest charting album. The Hopeless Records’ band took its last album, “So Wrong, It’s Right,” to No. 62 back in 2007.

As for the rest of the top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, the “Now 31″ compilation slips two spots to No. 3 with 101,000 (down 41%), while the Black Eyed Peas’ “The E.N.D.” holds on at No. 5 with 63,000 (down 10%). Some things change but then some thing remain the same; ladies still love Maxwell. Its seems that Maxwell has picked up right where he left off eight years ago with the release of his new album “Blacksummers’night.”

According to Billboard Maxwell’s “BLACKsummers’night,” is headed for a big debut next week on the Billboard 200 chart. Industry insiders suggest the Columbia set could move anything between 275,000 to 325,000 in its first week. The R&B singer’s last offering, 2001’s “Now,” opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with a career-high 296,000 copies sold according to Nielsen SoundScan.

“BLACKsummers’night” may not end up being the top selling album of the week, however. Interest in all things Michael Jackson continues and the big question mark is whether the King of Pop’s hits compilation “Number Ones” will continue to do boffo business. It would be surprising if the Epic effort sold near the 339,000 that it moved last week. However, sales were reportedly very brisk on Tuesday (July 7) — the day of Jackson’s memorial service.

The week’s other big new release, the “Hannah Montana 3″ TV soundtrack, looks like it may rake in between 100,000-125,000 in sales by week’s end on Sunday (July 12). Earlier this year, the “Hannah Montana: The Movie” film soundtrack started at No. 2 with 139,000. The first two “Hannah” TV soundtracks both reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 back in 2006 and 2007, respectively.

One more new album looks like it could make a top 10 entrance on the Billboard 200 next week: All Time Low’s third studio set “Nothing Personal.” The album may start with sales between 60,000 to 75,000. The Hopeless Records’ band took its last album, “So Wrong, It’s Right,” to No. 62 back in 2007.

Nielsen SoundScan’s sales tracking week, as reflected in the Billboard 200 chart, runs from Monday through Sunday. Next week’s Billboard 200 chart will be released in the morning of Wednesday, July 15, and will reflect data through the week ending Sunday, July 12.
