Haven1Interview With Designer Haven Prescott Jr. By. Alexis Diaz

In our ENTnext feature we are pleased to bring you upcoming talents in all forms of business. I recently had an opportunity to sit down and talk with Clothing Designer Haven Prescott Jr. Founder and Ceo of Moral Fabrix for a Quick 6, Check it Out:

1.Alexis:  What would you say your biggest inspiration is for starting your clothing line?

Haven: Biggest inspiration was my mother. Before she passed,  I told her that I would start my own business and be successful. Then when 9/11 hit I came up with the name Moral Fabrix.  I had a love for skateboarding and wanted to give a clothing line where Rock/Hip-Hop and European influence would all be fused together. To let the world know that you don’t have to just like one genre but multitudes. The term for this fusion is called Skurban.

2. Alexis: How does your family feel about you starting your own clothing line? Are they supportive or skeptical?

Haven: In the beginning my  father was skeptical. He was actually the reason for me not pursuing going to School for fashion. He told me that it wouldn’t be beneficial and that I needed to choose a different career path. My brothers and sister have always supported what I have wanted to do. They have always believed in my vision. Now as years have passed and things have progressed in my business, my father sees how I have excelled, and he could not be more proud. He completely supports me and does not doubt any decision that I make.

3. Alexis:  How long have you been a clothing designer for? Did you always know that this was what you wanted to do?

Haven: Wow, well lets see I have always been artistic. From a young age I would always draw pictures of people, scenery, clothing. I would have to say that by the age of 8 or 9 I knew I was going to be involved in fashion. All the kids would always notice me by the clothes I would wear. At a young age I was already making a statement and everyone noticed. I also used to model at the age of 17, so I’ve always been in the industry from a young age and always had a sense of style.  It was in 1999 at the age of 22 that  I realized that I wanted to be a clothing designer.

4. Alexis: Where do you picture yourself in the next 2 years with your business?

Haven: Well growing up I always knew that I wanted to have a business with my brothers and sisters. So within the next 2 years I picture myself bringing my family into all I do with the company. The great thing is that  one of my brothers David is already working side by side with me and I hope to have my other brother start working with us. They are both very artistic as well as creative. I also plan on taking the line to another level by starting a fragrance line for both men and women, in which my sister will definitely be able to put a lot of their input. Also Moral Fabrix will start doing things within home décor.

5. Alexis: When it comes to the financial aspect did you have to support yourself fully or were you able to get backers, to help support your vision?

Haven: In the beginning I had no financial backing . I was always on the grind supporting myself. I made my own connections, and was building a name for myself.  I then moved from the NY/Nj area out to LA and grinded for 4 years. Everything that had to do with my company I invested my money into.  Within the last year I had someone to help back me financially to give the push off the ground that moral fabrix needed.  Although I was able to get that financial assistance from someone who really saw my vision and could see the potential of Moral Fabrix, I still am very hardworking. I am constantly self promoting, and because of my knowledge of internet being that I own my on web design company I am able to maintain a strong web presence.

6. Alexis:  What would you tell to other entrepreneurs who are striving to be successful in this field? What are some tips to get them started?

Haven: Be careful who you get into business with, It is like a marriage. Choose your manufacturers wisely…..do your research. Maybe start off with something small for the manufacturers to work with and see how they are able deal with the task given to them.

Sit down and evaluate the situation….Write everything down so that you know the necessary steps to reaching your goals. Ask yourself ,what is the most important thing for you owning your own business. If possible do everything with your own funds so that you don’t owe anyone anything. All your hard work is paid off to you and not everyone else.

“Fashion has always been my passion”. -Haven Prescott Jr.

I would like to thank Haven for taking time out of his busy schedule to sit down and answer our Quick 6. I really enjoyed this interview and I am looking forward to continue seeing Moral Fabrix grow and become very successful.
