Welcome to the 21st century, the Aptera 2e will be the first all electric cars to hit the road, Check it out:

In 2005 Steve Fambro and Chris Anthony set out to build a lightweight, wingless vehicle that moved across the ground like a bird glides in the air. After four years of research and development, the all-electric, three-wheeled Aptera 2e (www.aptera.com) will be ready to go by the end of the year. The two-seater can achieve 100-plus miles on a single charge and reaches speeds up to 90 mph. Priced from $25,000 to $45,000 (depending on the interior appointments and the delivery date), the Aptera 2e is, for now, only available to California residents. Robb Report
